Background information

Energie Consumed :

The electricity supplied in the Principality of Monaco, just like the coastal area of the PACA region, depends almost entirely on a very high-voltage power line (400 000 Volts) which supplies the French Riviera from power stations in the Rhone Valley.

Over half of all energy consumed in Monaco is attributable to the electricity used for private and public use, chiefly housing, commercial and industrial facilities, buildings and public amenities (hospital, schools etc.) as well as urban lighting.

The volumes of domestic fuel and natural gas are predominantly consumed during the heating season.
As regards fuel consumption, this is represented by the sale of petrol and diesel within Monaco.

Energy produced :

Energy produced in Monaco derives mainly from heat pumps and the Urban and Industrial Waste Incineration Plant (UIRUI). Energy produced from heat pumps using sea water was estimated at 176 602 Megawatt hours (MWh) of thermal energy in 2012 which represents approximately 15 212 tonnes of oil equivalent.

After being relatively stable in the early 2000s, energy production increased in 2006, primarily due to the installation of new heat pumps.
